August 29, 1967

The Fourth Arab League Summit convenes in Khartoum, Sudan, chaired by the President of Sudan, Ismai’il al-Azhari. The opening session was brief and consisted of little more than a presentation of the agenda of the conference. During the ensuing days, the conference, led in most part by Egyptian President Gamal Abdel Nasser, focused on issues relating to the Arab defeat in the Six Day War and the next steps that should be taken by the Arab states.

The end result of the Fourth Arab League Summit was that the participants agreed that all measures should be taken to regain occupied lands and that the oil rich countries would finance the increasing of Arab military presence in the region. On the final day of the conference, September 1, the Khartoum resolutions were issued including the famous three no’s: no peace, no recognition, and no negotiation with Israel.
