A native of South Africa who was raised in England and made aliyah in 1944, Eban was a diplomat, politician and writer. With the Jewish Agency‘s U.N. delegation, he was heavily involved in the partition plan. His government posts included foreign minister, and he was ambassador to the United States and United Nations. His “Oxbridge” English gave his oratory great value, particularly after the June 1967 war.
