The 43rd U.S. president, Bush offered a vision for a two-state Israeli-Palestinian solution in June 2002 that inspired the “Roadmap for Peace” presented by the Quartet (the United States, European Union, United Nations and Russia) in 2003. He held talks with Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas in Annapolis, Maryland, in 2007. Abbas rejected Olmert’s resulting peace offer in 2008. Bush’s 2003 invasion of Iraq dramatically changed Israel’s neighborhood.
