Stemming from the Kilometer 101 talks that separate Israeli and Egyptian forces entwined in Sinai, this agreement begins what comes to be known as ‘shuttle’ diplomacy. US Secretary of State Kissinger flies between Arab capitals for four months hammering out this agreement and one more to follow on the Syrian front as well. The key for Egypt is convincing the US of its seriousness to negotiate and of its withdrawal of support and engagement with the USSR (a major success for US diplomacy). (source)
