Weizman serves in the Irgun and Haganah in the pre-state period, and then rises to command the Israeli Air Force during the 1967 war. He is instrumental in the Likud’s 1977 Knesset victory and becomes Defense Minister in Begin’s government. Along with Moshe Dayan, he is part of Israel’s delegation at the 1978 Camp David negotiations, striking up a particular warm friendship with Egyptian President Sadat. He returns to serve in the Knesset in the 1980s. He leaves the presidency in July 2000.
