The largest and most prominent museum in Israel is founded. It is considered to be one of the 10 greatest museums in the world. It contains more than 500,000 artifacts – from archaeology, ethnography, Judaica, as well as local and international artists. The museum has departments that include the Shrine of the Book, a model of Jerusalem during the Second Temple, Judaic treasures, the arts, and archaeology.
