During his groundbreaking two-day visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) coming just 16 months after the historic signing of the Abraham Accords, Israeli President Isaac Herzog meets with Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, as well as other government officials, business leaders and members of the country’s Jewish community. When Herzog and his wife Michal open Israel’s national day at the Expo 2020 Dubai, they witness the Israeli flag being raised and Hatikvah, Israel’s national anthem, played. In his speech he recalls the honor he had in inaugurating the UAE embassy in Tel Aviv only a few months prior. The details of this symbolic visit underscore the significance of the relationship between Israel and the UAE;  two months later in Sde Boker, Arab foreign ministers including those from the UAE, Bahrain, Egypt and Morocco met in Israel’s Negev, further pointing to Israel’s growing cooperation with regional Arab states.
