Originally developed by the Israeli company Mirabilis, ICQ is the software platform used to create America Online’s revolutionary Instant Messenger. In 1998, after the software is further refined, AOL purchases Mirabilis for $407 million. To date it is the largest buy-out of an Israeli company.
