Almog, a retired IDF major general, was unanimously nominated in June 2022 to serve a four-year term as the chairman of the Jewish Agency for Israel, succeeding Isaac Herzog. A paratrooper, Almog was the first soldier on the ground in Entebbe in 1976. He was involved in Operation Moses, the mid-1980s airlift of Ethiopian Jews. He founded and chairs the ADI Negev-Nahalat Eran Rehabilitation Village for people with disabilities, named after his late son.
