Yair Lapid, the leader of the Knesset opposition, and Naftali Bennett, who each served as prime minister through a coalition formed in 2021, announce that they are forming a combined party list called Together for the Knesset election that must be held by October 2026. Their aim is to unseat Benjamin Netanyahu, the longest-serving prime minister in Israel’s history. Campaign issues are expected to include accountability for the October 2023 Hamas attack on Israel; multiple efforts to reconfigure Israeli democracy by placing more power in the government and Cabinet and less in the judiciary; Haredi military service; and ongoing corruption trials against Netanyahu.
