Hezbollah, Iran’s Lebanese proxy, resumes hostilities in response to Israel’s attack on Iran and reported assassination of Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. Israel then pounds Hezbollah in southern Lebanon, moves ground forces across the border, and attacks Hezbollah strongholds in and around Beirut. After its proxy setbacks in Gaza and Syria, Iran made clear that it would provide Hezbollah diplomatic support to sustain its existence in Lebanon after any ceasefire.
