King Hussein, angered by the belligerent conduct of Palestinian guerrilla groups in Jordan, has his military expel Yasser Arafat and the PLO from Jordan. During what is known as “Black September,” the PLO is forced to reorganize and move its central base of operations to Lebanon. The PLO remains in Lebanon until being driven out by Israel in 1982 and moving to Tunis.
