Bashar Assad’s Syrian regime enters the 22nd month of clinging to power, having killed more than 60,000 of its own citizens, with 500,000 Syrians fleeing as refugees to Jordan, Turkey, Egypt, and Lebanon. Outside parties remain unable or unwilling to interfere in the carnage perpetrated against the Syrian population. Since the Iranian-Hezballah connection passes through Syria, Israel pays particularly close attention to that weapon’s flow as well as divining Syria’s future configuration and regional alignments.
