Arieh Navon (1909-1996) is well known for gently humorous caricatures that appeared for over 30 years in Davar, the newspaper of the Histadrut, beginning in 1933. In this work, based on the depiction on the Arch of Titus, we see diverse members of the First Knesset, among them David Ben-Gurion, Golda Meir, Moshe Sneh and Menachem Begin, carrying both the Ark of the Covenant and the new seal of the State of Israel, symbolizing the return of Jewish sovereignty to Jerusalem after 2,000 years of exile.
