“Israel: Religion, Society, Culture, and Identity”

Dr. Reda Mansour, Emory University, Fall 2017

This course explores the issues of religion, society, culture and identity in Israel. Israel is an emergent society composed of Jewish immigrants who arrived from more than 70 countries. It is also a country that defines itself as “Jewish and democratic” but whose population is 20% Arab citizens and contains other ethnic and religious groups. This course presents these different groups and discusses the interactions between them and the communities of their origin. It likewise explores the changes in the culture and identity of these groups.
