Esther Hayut, 1953-

Hayut is the Israeli Supreme Court’s president, a post she is due to hold until October 2023. The Jerusalem Post says she could be Israel’s most influential chief justice since Aharon Barak by reasserting the court’s review of laws and protection of rights. She has served on the high court since 2003 and been the chief justice since 2017. Born in Herzliya to Romanian Holocaust survivors, she was a judge in Tel Aviv for over a decade.
