The war in Syria has taken a massive humanitarian toll along with economic and social consequences that will reverberate throughout the region for decades to come. Across the Middle East and in Europe, migrations from Syria are changing local and regional politics. The war in Syria has resulted in the loss of up to 450,000 lives and some 13.5 million people are now in need of humanitarian assistance, including six million children.
