The final 20 living Israeli hostages held by Hamas and other Palestinians in Gaza were released October 13, 2025, under the peace plan proposed by President Donald Trump and accepted by Israel and Hamas on October 9. As agreed, Hamas released the hostages within three days of the Israeli Cabinet’s approval of the ceasefire and the initial Israel Defense Forces pullback.
The first seven hostages freed were Alon Ohel, Matan Angrest, Gali Berman, Ziv Berman, Guy Gilboa-Dalal, Eitan Mor and Omri Miran, followed soon after by the remaining 13: Yosef-Haim Ohana, Avinatan Or, Elkana Bohbot, Rom Braslavski, Evyatar David, Eitan Horn, Maxim Herkin, Nimrod Cohen, Segev Kalfon, Matan Zangauker, Ariel Cunio, David Cunio and Bar Kupershtein.
But Hamas did not fulfill its obligation to return the bodies of the last 28 dead hostages the same day or at least to provide information about them. Instead, Hamas sent only nine dead hostages back over the next three days:
- Israelis Guy Ilouz, Capt. Daniel Peretz and Yossi Sharabi and Nepali student Bipin Joshi.
- Israelis Uriel Baruch, Staff Sgt. Tamir Nimrodi and Eitan Levy, as well as a fourth body that proved to be a Palestinian and not one of the hostages.
- Israelis Inbar Haiman and Warrant Officer Muhammad el-Atrash.
