On June 2, 2021, Chaim Herzog was elected over Miriam Peretz to a seven-year term as Israel’s 11th president. When he takes office in July, succeeding Reuven Rivlin, he will become the first second-generation Israeli president: His father, Chaim, held the position from 1983 to 1993.
How was he elected? What was the process to become a candidate? And what does the Israeli president do?
Those questions and more are answered in CIE’s latest Israel On Board video, which includes a timeline of the first 10 presidents and the four people who filled the position on an interim basis. The animated video runs 6 minutes, 19 seconds.
