Authored by Dr. Shlomo Swirski, Ett Knor-Atias, and Ariane Ophir, the report concludes that Israelis like to think of their country as part of Western Europe. However, on most socio-economic indicators, Israeli per capita GDP and average wage resemble the eastern and southern fringes of Europe. The poverty rate in Israel also distances it from western Europe, being similar to rates in China and Mexico. The report touches upon racial and gender equality, unemployment, national health care and public education. The report is a wonderful snapshot of Israel on the inside. The report can be viewed here.
