Born in Ireland in 1918, he immigrates to Palestine in 1935, joins the Haganah, and becomes head of the Army’s Intelligence branch. Herzog practices law and later takes several positions in the Israeli foregn ministry, including ambassador to the UN. He gives a stirring rebuttal to the 1975 UN resolution claiming Zionist was racism. His presidency lasts a decade (two five year terms, the most allowed by law).
