Yasso is the First Israeli of Ethiopian decent to win this popular singing competition on an Israeli reality show. She is born in the southern Israeli city of Sdereot in 1989. The daughter of immigrants who journey through Sudan to get to Israel from Ethiopia, Yaso spends her military service performing in the Israel Defense Forces band. Since winning the competition, she has gone on a wold tour performing her music, likewise traveling to Ethiopia with her family to discover her cultural roots. Yaso’s success on the show and subsequent ascension to fame help to shed light on issues facing the Ethiopian community in Israel.
