Showing impatience with Israel’s unwavering presence in the territories and management of the Palestinians, the EU agrees to label products produced there as “Made in Settlements.” The EU wants to go beyond chiding Israel; its aim is to jeopardize Israeli trade from settlements in the West Bank and east Jerusalem. The Israeli government sees this action as blatantly discriminatory because products produced in other conflict zones or occupied territories do not require such labels in the EU. The EU move is considered to be more of a political statement than an action with real commercial impact.
