Following weeks of mediation by the United States, Egypt, and Qatar, Hamas and Israel agree to a prisoner-for-hostage exchange and a four-day ceasefire. During the ceasefire, which begins on November 24, Hamas releases 50 Israeli hostages from almost two months of captivity, and Israel releases 150 Palestinian prisoners from Israeli jails.. A four-day ceasefire becomes a week, during which 40 Palestinians are released from Israeli prisons and 81 Israelis from Hamas’s captivity.
