Days after PA President Abbas’ UN speech on September 30, 2015, a month’s worth of sporadic killings of Israelis primarily by Palestinian youths commences. Israel responds by bolstering military and police presence in Israel’s population centers. During this time, some dozen Israelis and 60 Palestinians are killed. Palestinian political factions differ on objectives: Hamas wants full militarization, while more moderate groups like Fatah suggest a peaceful uprising. Abbas’ threat to cut security cooperation with Israel does not take place. A crackdown on Hamas activists takes place in the West Bank in October, with 103 members arrested, and another two dozen in early November near Qalqilya.
