Born Israel Berchenko, in the Ukraine, Galili comes to Eretz Ysrael at age 3 (1911-1986), later becoming one of the founders of Hanoar Haoved, and Kibbutz Na’an, his home until his death. Serving in a variety of defense duties, he is active in the Haganah and in clandestine weapons purchases. He serves as a member of the Knesset (1949-1977), Cabinet Minister, as a close confidant of Prime Minister Golda Meir, and is in charge of early settlements in Judea and Samaria after the 1967 war.
