In honor of the Israel’s 75th birthday, President Herzog delivers a speech to a joint session of Congress. Given U.S. concern over proposed changes to Israel’s judicial system, Herzog notes the painful debate rippling through the country, while also affirming Israel’s democratic nature. Alluding to progressive House Democrats who did not attend the speech, he notes that he respects criticism of Israel, even that which he does not accept. In acknowledging both his father Chaim who spoke from the very same podium in 1987, Herzog paid tribute to the unbreakable historic bond between the Israel and the United States. (source) (espanol)
