With 137 Israelis still held hostage and following a weeklong ceasefire, hostilities resume. Israel’s Office of the Prime Minister releases a statement affirming its aims: “Upon the resumption of fighting, we emphasize: The Government of Israel is committed to achieving the goals of the war: Releasing the hostages, eliminating Hamas and ensuring that Gaza never again constitutes a threat to the residents of Israel.” Israel redirects its offensive from Gaza City to the southern Gaza City of Khan Yunis.
