Having come to Jerusalem in part to continue discussions with Israeli representatives on an agreement between their two countries, and accompanied by his grandson Hussein, King Abdullah is assassinated. He is killed while attending Friday prayers at the al-Aqsa mosque by an associate of the Mufti of Jerusalem, Abdullah’s political competitor for control over Arab-Jerusalem and the West Bank.
