After Secretary of State Kerry ends his sixth trip to the Middle East, Palestinian-Israeli talks restart. Suspended in September 2010, little trust exists between the sides. Gaps are wide on border issues, Israeli settlements, security guarantees, and Jerusalem’s future. Arab refusal to recognize Israel as a Jewish state is one reason that the talks end in April 2014 without agreements reached.
