Serving in a variety of national posts, he is one of the Labor Party’s most influential figures. Born in Poland as Pinhas Kozlowski in 1907, Sapir comes to Eretz Yisrael in 1929. Sapir serves as a cabinet minister from 1955 to 1972, as Minister of Finance and Trade and Industry. While he is in the cabinet, the Israeli economy sustains healthy economic growth. He opposes Israeli territorial expansion beyond the “Green Line” after the 1967 war because of its economic ramifications.
