John Paul’s pilgrimage, the second papal visit to Israel, marks the first time that a pope visits Jewish and Muslim sites in Jerusalem; He does so in an effort to further Papal relations with other faiths. Making stops at Yad Va’shem (Jerusalem Holocaust memorial) and the Western Wall, the Pope likewise meets with Israeli leaders Ezer Weizman and Ehud Barak as well as Palestinian Leader Yasser Arafat to speak about politics and the Israeli/Palestinian conflict.
