During the first two weeks of December, Palestinians from the occupied territories killed six Israeli security force members and then, on December 13, Hamas kidnapped an Israeli. The Israeli’s body was found two days later, whereupon Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin deported to Lebanon 415 suspected Hamas/Islamic Jihad activists. The Israeli Supreme Court upheld the deportations. Those deported included two key hamas leaders, Mahoud al-Zahar and Abdel Aziz al-Rantis. Both would eventually return to Gaza where they would lead Hamas.
