At its convention, the Republican Party states that free Jewish immigration to Palestine was guaranteed by the Balfour Declaration and the British Mandate. The party also condemns Roosevelt’s failure to insist on British adherence to the Declaration. At their convention later that summer, the Democrats also demand that the British open Palestine to free Jewish immigration and add that they hope a free and democratic Jewish commonwealth will be the result.
