In a far-ranging speech, Hillary Clinton enumerates the close historic, governmental, and personal ties existing between Israel and the US. After repeating the oft held framework for the special US-Israeli relationship, she criticizes Israel for a “ lack of generosity” in negotiations towards the Palestinians. She praises the work of Palestinian leaders Abbas and Fayyad for overhauling governmental institutions, but criticizes the Palestinian leadership for unilateral action in seeking recognition at the UN. Consistent with the Obama administration policy she supports a path that will finally deliver a two-state solution.
