Building on the scaffolding established in the 1983 strategic agreement between the US and Israel, the two parties sign a secret agreement for Israeli participation in Strategic Defense Initiative (“Star Wars”) research. Representing a strengthening of ties between Israel and the US under the leadership of President Reagan, the joint project leads to further collaborative partnerships between the two countries.
