Supreme Court rules that the Knesset -Netanyahu led government cannot repeal reasonableness clause, a major blow to their goal to diminish power of Supreme Court

The Israeli Supreme Court takes an axe to the Netanyahu governments effort to limit the power of the Israeli judiciary. In a 8-7 decision, the high court reinstated “the reasonableness clause” repealed by the Knesset in July 2023, restoring to the court the power to overturn government decisions it judges “unreasonable.” A majority of the court (12-3) affirmed the Court’s right to judicial review of Israel’s most important legislation, its 14 Basic Laws.
