The Israeli Supreme Court takes an axe to the Netanyahu governments effort to limit the power of the Israeli judiciary. In a 8-7 decision, the high court reinstated “the reasonableness clause” repealed by the Knesset in July 2023, restoring to the court the power to overturn government decisions it judges “unreasonable.” A majority of the court (12-3) affirmed the Court’s right to judicial review of Israel’s most important legislation, its 14 Basic Laws.
