Yair Lapid, the Yesh Attid Party leader, became Israel’s 14th Prime Minister on July 2, 2022 per the rotation agreement signed with his predecessor Naftali Bennett in June 2021. Together then cobbled together the broadest coalition in Israel’s parliamentary history. It was the failure of the Bennett government to renew special laws for Israeli settlers living in Judea and Samaria (the West Bank), that caused the rotation to be made active, and the scheduling of new Knesset elections for November 1, 2022.
