Yael Arad, 1967-

A Tel Aviv native and entrepreneur, Arad is the first Israeli to win an Olympic medal, taking a silver in judo at the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona. She dedicated her medal to the 11 Israelis killed at the 1972 Munich Olympics. She won European gold in 1993. She coached Israel’s judo team at the 2000 Olympics. A TV judo commentator, she became the first female president of the Israeli Olympic Committee in 2021 and is leading planning for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
