An Arab Christian from the Galilee, Awad is a star singer and actress. She studied at the Rimon School of Jazz and Contemporary Music before moving to Tel Aviv. In 2009 she became the first Arab and Christian to represent Israel at the Eurovision Song Contest when she performed with Achinoam Nini (Noa). As an actress, she gained fame on the TV sitcom “Arab Labor” in 2007 and has appeared in films and stage musicals. An advocate for Jewish-Arab coexistence, she identifies as Palestinian and Israeli.
