Armistice negotiations are conducted by the United Nations in Greece with Ralph Bunche as Interim U.N. negotiator. Israel eventually sings armistice agreements with surrounding Arab states. Arab states do not recognize Israel’s right to exist. Jerusalem becomes a divided city, and access to Jewish Holy sites denied to Israelis. In spite of private talks, no peace treaties are signed between Israel and neighbors. Armistice violations abound on each of Israel’s borders.(source)
