On October, 7, 2023, at 6:30am, on shabbat at the end of Sukkot, hundreds of Hamas terrorists infiltrated Israel by land, sea, and air. Entering communities in the south, they massacred entire families, brutally killing pregnant women and children, indiscriminately murdering more than 280 attendees at a music festival, and in one day killed more than 1,300 Israels.  Days later photos and videos revealed the scope of the Hamas brutality as they established “killing fields” plus the beheading and shooting of babies. Hamas took an estimated 239 hostages and moved them to the Gaza Strip. Hamas also launched barrages of missiles into Israel. After assembling its forces in the south, Israel responded by pounding the Gaza Strip, it slowly preparing for a ground invasion to root out Hamas rule. On October 12, Israel formed a national unity war. The US demonstrated its immediate support for Israel by dispatching two aircraft carrier groups and a nuclear submarine to the area; President Biden flew to Israel for a 24-hour visit giving unqualified support to the Israeli people, characterizing Hamas’s actions as “evil.”

October 7 was characterized as the worst single day in Israel’s 75-year history.  Coincidently the attack occurred fifty years after Egypt and Israel surprised Israel in a coordinated attack beginning the 1973 October War.
